Acugems Facial Rejuve™

Acugems Facial Rejuve™ (AFR) is the newest innovation for smoother, tighter skin using VENUS Facial Gem System. This synergistic system combines the use of radio waves, microcurrent, gems, sound, photon light, and the Wisdom of Chinese Medicine. Eight of the primary meridians run through the face, and the theory behind AFR is centered around Chinese Medicine.  

It works by heating up the deep layers of your skin by using advanced gem radio wave technology. These radio waves emit regenerating biological signals that work to promote activity of enzymes in the cells. The result is skin tightening, new collagen and elastin production, and increased blood circulation, all of which provides lifting and tightening effects.

There are several steps to the treatment. First acupuncture needles are inserted into body points to support constitutional balance. Next, the "root" treatment addresses the facial tissues by applying product and using probes which emit the radio waves and microcurrent. Once this step is complete, the VENUS mask is applied which stimulates specific acupuncture points on the face to further tone and strengthen the muscles for the lifting effect. This protocol not only tightens the skin, stimulates collagen and elastin production, and tones and strengthens the facial and neck muscles, but it can reduce fine lines and wrinkles. What is radio wave technology?

Radio waves have been used in medicine of over 70 years. Gradually its use in the practice of dermatology, and cosmetology procedures has gained momentum and popularity. Radio wave energy is non-ablative (causes no damage to the tissues) and is the lowest of the electromagnetic frequencies within the spectrum. By applying RF energy to the body, heat will be produced where resistance is encountered, thus opening up channels and meridians where there is stagnation and congestion. It is able to penetrate deeper into the skin and affect the deeper dermis and subcutaneous layers, causing tightening and improvements to the unterlying tissue structure. It works on the simple principle that a high frequency electric wave is generated, which penetrates the skin and moves the water molecules. Due to this movement, these molecules collide with each other and heat is produced which contracts old collagen and stimulates the formation of new collagen. The formation and contraction of collagen results in the tightening of skin. Micro-currents used are adaptogenic to the tendons and muscles of the face, relaxing hypertonic muscles, and tonifying lax muscles, both of which contribute to the formation of wrinkles and/or sagging.  

How do gemstones help the skin?

Gems operate on scientific principles that are commonly used in medical equipment such as ultrasound apparatus, surgical ruby crystal lasers, and ultrasound scanners. Every television, quartz clock, portable phone, and personal computer relies on quartz crystals to run smoothly. Gemstones contain the most condensed form of energy on the planet and have the most orderly structure in nature. Different gems have different colors, which create different light wavelength changes and consequently affect the skin in different ways. For example, when tourmaline gems warm (tourmaline is build into the ends of the Acugems microcurrent probes), as they do when they are combined with the radio waves, they have the unique feature of becoming positivley charged at one end, and negativle charged on the other, thus creating negative ions. It is this feature that makes tourmaline so effective at increasing the absorbtion of nutrients into the skin, so that the skin can be healed and protected as a result. Because tourmaline is an energizing crystal as well, it can contribute to the vitality of the skin, making it appear more radiant and youthful.

How is this different from Acupuncture Facial Rejuvenation, or other skin tightening procedures?

I have also been trained and certified in Acupuncture Facial Rejuvenation which involves the insertion of needles into fine lines, wrinkles, and acupuncture points on the face and neck in order to reduce the visible signs of aging. While this protocol is effective, and is available upon request, I have found the Acugems Facial Rejuve™ system to be more pleasant with less risk of side effects. In certain cases I may find it appropriate to combine the two protocols. With the Acugems™ system, often fewer treatments are required with longer lasting results, and less frequent maintenance sessions may be necessary. This system is the only system that combines radio waves, microcurrent, gems, sound, photon light, and the Wisdom of Chinese Medicine. There are minimal side effects and discomfort. No anesthesia or skin cooling is necessary after this treatment, you can return to home or work immediately following the procedure.

How many sessions will I need?

It is recommended that you complete a series of 12 sessions at once per week to achieve the best and longest lasting results. This may vary from person to person based on age and the condition of the skin from the start. The need for follow up will also vary with the individual and may be as infrequently as once every 2-7 months, to as often as once every 8-13 weeks. Research conducted by Acugems™ revealed that the effects after a full series of 12 can last 2-3 years with no maintenance, and longer if maintenance sessions are continues. The results will be enhanced by good health practices such as minimizing sun exposure, the use of organic skincare products, avoiding cigarettes, caffeine, and alcohol, staying hydrated, and getting enough sleep.

What should I expect during the treatment?

Your first session can take up to 2 hours unless we have already completed the detailed intake during an acupuncture session. Acupuncture points are selected for your constitutional pattern, needles are inserted, and then we will begin using the Acugems™ system. You will feel a deep warm, tingling sensation each time the Facial Gem System touches the face, and may feel the facial muscles twitch from time to time. It is not painful, but pleasant and relaxing. Your face may appear slightly red after the session for 30-60 minutes.

Are there any contraindications to this procedure?

The following conditions would preclude the Acugems Facial Rejuve™ treatment: Epilpsy, cancer patients, pregnancy, breast feeding, oral herpes breakout, pace makers or other electromagnetic devices, people with heart disease or heart transplants, any existing cosmetic fillers or botox.

Will insurance cover this procedure?

Unfortunatly insurance will not cover facial procedures. However, if we are also addressing other conditions with acupuncture that are covered by your insurance company I can provide you with a receipt which you can submit to your insurance company for partial reimbursement.
